7 WONDERS OF EL CUYO
Witness the amazing journey of the El Cuyo turtles. The best time to visit is in late August, September and early October, although the nesting & hatching season can sometimes stretch as far as November. Dusk is usually the best time for turtle hatching but it can also happen during the day.
As many of our turtles are endangered or at risk, please do not touch or disturb the turtles.
Please no flash photography as the bright lights can harm the turtles. Even turtles appreciate a little social distancing.
Surrounded by nature preserve, El Cuyo is home to thousands of Pink Flamingos.
Unlike most birds the Flamingos of El Cuyo are not migratory. This allows most visitors to find our Pink Friends anytime of year...if you know where to look.
A kite beach that stretches for miles.
Thermal winds that turn on right after lunch.
Nortes that kick up a healthy swell.
And a thriving kite community that is always willing to provide lessons, guidance and fun.
We believe El Cuyo is one of the top kiteboarding spots for Mexico.
People travel around the world looking for a place to see this beautiful phenomena. Bioluminescence is light produced by a chemical reaction within a living organism. Best seen during a calm hot nights, these blooms are possible from May to September.
A day at the beach has special way of healing the soul. Maybe it’s the way time seems to stop in El Cuyo or the magic of spotting a giant manta ray, dolphin or turtle pass you by.
Still used today, El Cuyo’s lighthouse guides fisherman to the safety of shore. Hidden beneath the lighthouse and a sea of vegetation, lives a Mayan ruin.
Abandoned building in center of town or is it? This colonial structure is now owned by billionaire, one of Mexico’s top 10 wealthiest people. The outside of the building has been restored, while the interior offers luxurious accommodations. While it may seem that no one has ever heard of this tiny village, this building may indicate otherwise.


7 WONDERS NEAR EL CUYO
Bird enthusiasts will flock to nearby Rio Lagartos.
A magical spot with over 250 species of birds which includes Herons, Flamingos, Pelicans, Eagles and many others. Take a local boat tour to expirence the wide variety of birds and reptiles.

A senic 2 hour drive will reveal flamingo nesting grounds and the pink waters of Las Coloradas.

Have you ever visited a Mayan ruin and said to yourself: this is beautiful, but I wish there were less people? Walk through historic sleeping quarters, sporting arenas and climb a pyramid - Ek Balam is sure to impress.
Dont forget to stop by X'Canche Cenote to zipline into its cooling clear waters.

Possibly one of the prettiest of the 3,000 cenotes scattered across Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. Cenote Dzitnup and Valladolid have much to explore.

Fans of shark week will appreciate these gentle giants. Holbox is also one of the best spots in Yucatan to experience the wonders of whale sharks from May through September.
Directions: there is no direct way to get to Holbox on land. You will need to drive to Chiquila, park your car and take the ferry to Holbox. Parking in Chiquila is widely available and the cost is only 50-100 pesos per day.

Currently there is not an ATM in El Cuyo.
Please come prepared with pesos for your stay.
Not all restaurants and shops take credit cards.
El Cuyo is a small town without a lot of modern amenities.
We do not have a traditional grocery stores, atms or urgent care.
If you need any special food accommodations or other needs, please research thoroughly and/or bring your needs.
While locals are friendly and most speak some English, we strongly recommend having a basic understanding of Spanish. No better way to truly immerse yourself into the country and culture you are visiting. English is a pleasant surprise not guaranteed.
Certain times a year Cancun & El Cuyo are 1 hour apart.
Please note this when driving back to catch your flight.
